About While You Wait
While You Wait is a mental health program for young people who are in need of mental health support but are currently unable to access mental health services. The program is completed one-on-one with a trained facilitator at a headspace clinic. There are four sessions in the program, each lasting about an hour. The sessions are summarised in the boxes below.
Session 1
In Session One, you'll be introduced to While You Wait and your facilitator.
We'll talk about emotions and what they mean, and how what we do impacts how we feel.
Session 2
In Session Two, we'll explore what's most important to you. Then you'll learn about different types of problems and how to sort them into groups. Lastly, we'll talk about unwanted thoughts and feelings and how we can manage them.
Session 3
In Session Three, we'll discuss and practice some strategies you can use to cope with unwanted thoughts and feelings.
Then you'll learn and practice the six steps of problem solving.
Session 4
In Session Four, we'll talk about how to cope with problems that you have no control over.
We'll discuss and practice some new strategies for these types of problems, and make a plan for your next steps.
